The Mathematician’s Toolbox

The mathematician’s toolbox helps you when solving a problem. Here are the strategies…

  1. Do I know a similar problem?
  2. Guess, check, improve.
  3. Try a simpler problem.
  4. Write an equation.
  5. Make a list or a table.
  6. Work backwards.
  7. Act it out.
  8. Draw a picture, a diagram or a graph.
  9. Make a model.
  10. Look for a pattern.
  11. Try all possibilities.
  12. Break the problem into smaller parts.
